How to drive with your Italian licence in Australia

Are you wondering if you need to translate or convert your Italian driver’s licence? Here are a few examples of when you might need to do that:

  • For short term stays and holidays, you will need a certified translation in order to rent a car.

  • If you intend to stay long-term and reside in Australia, you may be required to convert your translated licence to an Australian one (depending on the State), which can then be used as a valuable form of ID.

    * Australia is divided into 6 states and 2 territories, each with their own rules and regulations. That’s why it’s important to check the official rules and guidelines of the state or territory that you live in/are visiting!

Your translation also requires NAATI certification. This is performed by a NAATI-certified translator, and it guarantees that the translation meets the strict standards required by Australian authorities, reducing the risk of errors or rejections.

So, what’s the next step? I’ve created an easy to follow guide you which explains the steps on how to get your licence translated, and then convert it if needed. Some information is specific to Western Australia (WA), but I’ve also provided links to the different official transport websites of each state and territory.
